Agents
Introduction to Agents
An Agent is a reusable, named AI assistant configured by your organization. It packages a persona and a set of instructions (how the assistant should behave, what it specializes in, and which Skills it can use) so that anyone in your organization can start a chat that is already set up for a specific job.
A Skill runs as a single, self-contained task: it executes in its own session, can work through a series of tool calls, and returns a result that may or may not be an artifact. An Agent shapes an entire conversation. You chat with an Agent the same way you chat normally, but the Agent's instructions are applied behind the scenes for the whole session, and its Skills are the ones available to use.
Agents vs. Skills vs. Prompts
These three concepts build on each other, and it helps to know which to reach for:
| What it is | Scope | |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt | The raw text you type into chat in the moment. | A single message. |
| Skill | A saved, reusable, structured instruction that runs as a self-contained task. It can work through tool calls and may produce an artifact. See Prompts vs. Skills. | A single invocation. |
| Agent | A configured persona (instructions plus a curated set of Skills) that you hold a conversation with. | An entire chat session. |
An Agent can be given one or more Skills. When you chat with that Agent, those are the Skills it can run on your behalf. An Agent is also a way to scope a conversation to a focused toolkit.
What an Agent is made of
Every Agent has:
- Name: how the Agent is identified throughout the app (required, up to 128 characters).
- Description: a short summary of what the Agent does and what sets it apart (optional, up to 512 characters). Shown when browsing Agents.
- Instructions: the detailed behavioral prompt the Agent follows, covering tone of voice, area of expertise, the tasks it's good at, and any rules it should obey (required). These are injected into the system prompt for every message in the conversation.
- Skills: zero or more Skills from your organization that the Agent is allowed to use during chat.
- Featured: whether the Agent is suggested to users on a new chat. Non-featured Agents can still be chatted with from the Agents page.
- Recommended Prompts: optional, ordered starter prompts. Each has a tagline (a short label the user sees) and a prompt (the text that gets pre-filled when the tagline is clicked), giving people an easy way to kick off a conversation.
Global Agents
Alongside your organization's own Agents, Revelry Ai can provide Global Agents: platform-managed Agents available to every organization. They appear in your Agents list with a "Global" indicator and are read-only. You can chat with them, but only platform administrators can edit them.
When to use an Agent
Reach for an Agent when you want a consistent, repeatable conversational experience rather than a one-off output:
- A "Support Triage" agent that always responds in your support voice and has your help-desk Skills on hand.
- A "Proposal Writer" agent scoped to your proposal and estimate Skills, with starter prompts for common document types.
- A "Data Analyst" agent with spreadsheet and Knowledge Skills, instructed to explain its reasoning step by step.
