Skills
Skills were called Prompt Templates before v1.2.0. See Prompts vs. Skills for how the two differ.
Introduction to Skills
Use a Skill to save instructions your team runs again and again, so every run starts from the same inputs, attachments, tools, and model.
A Skill is a reusable set of instructions that structures your input to Revelry Ai. Building a Skill is an exercise in Prompt Engineering: writing the instructions that get the output you want, often as an Artifact.
The simplest Skill is a text prompt that Revelry Ai receives when the Skill runs. A Skill can also collect user inputs when it runs, carry document attachments as fixed reference material, and turn on the built-in tools (Knowledge, Artifacts, Workspace Agents, Web Search) and integrations it needs. Revelry Ai adds your organization's context and the current Project's context to the chat the Skill runs in.
Skills sit between one-off prompts and Agents, which wrap a set of Skills in an assistant. See Prompts vs. Skills.
How Skills run in chat
A Skill's Operating Mode decides whether it runs inside your conversation, in its own session, or lets the assistant choose (Auto, the default). To run a Skill, type / and the Skill's slug in the message box. See Executing Skills.
Composing Skills into Agents
An Agent is largely a set of Skills wrapped in a persona, and only its own Skills can run in its chats. See Composing Agents & Skills.
Recommended prompts vs. Skills
A recommended prompt is saved text that fills the message box when someone clicks it on an Agent. Nothing runs until they send it. See Skill or recommended prompt?.
Skill Library
The Skill Library lists your organization's Skills and the Global Skills that Revelry Ai provides. Use it to find, run, create, and manage Skills, and to choose Skills to add to Agents.
The Skill Library is the Skills tab on the Tools page in the left navigation.
The Skill Library and its pages are part of the Skill Management feature, which is on by default. If your organization has turned it off, the Skills tab doesn't appear on the Tools page, and people can still run Skills in chat by typing / in the message box.
Organization Skills vs. Revelry Ai Skills
- Organization Skills are custom Skills that people in your organization create for its Projects.
- Revelry Ai Skills are standard Skills that Revelry Ai provides to every organization as starting points for common tasks. They carry a Global label and can't be edited. To customize one, make a copy, which needs permission to manage Skills.
Using the Skill Library
- Click Tools in the left navigation.
- Click the Skills tab.
- Filter the list by Category, Author, or Project, or turn on Include Disabled Skills to show disabled Skills.
- Type in Search Skills to find a Skill by keyword.
- To build a Skill, click the button at the top of the page to create a Skill, then see Building A Skill. People with the Organization Admin or Organization Member role see this button.
Using a Skill from the library
- Find the Skill in the library, or open its detail page.
- Click the arrow icon on the Skill's row, or Use This Skill on its detail page.
- Chat opens and the Skill starts right away. If the Skill has inputs, the assistant asks you for them first.
You can also start the Skill yourself from any chat by typing / plus its slug. See Executing Skills.
Customizing Revelry Ai Skills
To adapt a Revelry Ai Skill that is close to what you need, copy it.
- Click a Skill marked Global to open its detail page.
- In the right column, click Make a Copy. You need permission to manage Skills to see it.
- Add any context, user inputs, attachments, or tools you need.
- Change the Name if you like (it starts as the original name plus "(Copy)"), then click Save. The copy is saved as an Organization Skill.
Viewing and managing Skills
Before you can edit, copy, disable, or delete a Skill, open its detail page.
- Click a Skill's row in the list to open its detail page. From there you can:
- Click Use This Skill to open Chat and run it.
- Click Edit to change the Skill's instructions, user inputs, attachments, tools, or other settings, then click Save. Edit doesn't appear on Global or disabled Skills.
- Click Make a Copy to open a new Skill form filled in from this one. Adjust it, then click Save.
- Click Disable to stop the Skill from running. It stays saved, and Enable turns it back on.
- Click Delete and confirm. If the Skill has been used in a chat, an artifact, or a Workflow, it can't be deleted, and the app suggests disabling it. Otherwise it's deleted.
Skill version history
Skills keep an append-only version history. Every save that changes how a Skill runs (its instructions, model, user inputs, tools and integrations, attachments, web search setting, or artifact type) records an immutable version with its author and timestamp. Changes to the name, description, category, or operating mode don't create versions.
The Skill details page has a Version History section listing each version's number, author, and date. Click a version to view a read-only snapshot of the Skill as it was at that point.
Skills always run from their current settings. Versions are a record of changes. You can't restore a version or compare two versions. Global Skills keep versions too.
